Preface to the Third Edition Read and hear this section in the playable edition →
To this edition I have added, among other things, the following material, which is needed in practice: hidden fifths and octaves, the plagal half cadence, the triad on the second degree and its seventh chord, ascending sequences, and some explanation of how to lay out a modulation plan. Some chapters have been moved; others, less important for the pupil, are printed in small type; and several chorales have been added to the exercises.
