§ 45. 1) By repeating a second lower the model formed by the resolution of the dominant seventh chord to the tonic chord, the following harmonic sequences result:

A) In the major mode: sixteen chords descending by fifths in C major, seventh chords (figured 7) alternating with triads, the common notes tied
Fig. 159 · See it in the reader
or: the same sequence beginning with an incomplete V7 (no fifth) resolving to a complete tonic triad
Fig. 160 · See it in the reader
B) In the minor mode: the same sequence in A minor, harmonic V with G♯ at the start and end, natural (G♮) forms of VII, III, V and I in between
Fig. 161 · See it in the reader
or: the minor sequence beginning with an incomplete V7 (no fifth) resolving to a complete tonic triad

These sequences show us the most natural resolution of the seventh chords of the second order: each resolves to the triad a fourth above or a fifth below. Complete seventh chords resolve to incomplete triads, and conversely.
