§ 51. — The artificial major triad of the IV degree of the melodic minor mode, which arises from the alteration of the VI degree of the ascending minor scale (see § 28), gives us two further means of modulation: from a minor key to the key of the subdominant, a–d; and from a major key to the key of the II degree, C–d.

Example 1 (unnumbered): A minor to D minor; VII of A minor (G major) taken as IV of the melodic minor of D.
