Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov · section 54 of 96
by the tonic chord of the following key
Read and hear this section in the playable edition →§ 52. — Here is the procedure for modulation by the tonic chord of the following key:
1) When one is in any key, one strikes the tonic chord of the following key and, regarding the modulation as accomplished, adds chords of the new key to it.
2) If this intermediate chord is a chord of the second order in the preceding major key, we suggest that the student place it a third below a chord of the first order, and in root position.
